Jesus walked on water, ice that is

Those familiar with the bible are familiar with the belief that Jesus walked across water as though it were firm ground. That very belief is being challenged by a Florida State University professor:

Jesus walked on water [...] a rare combination of water and atmospheric conditions in the Sea of Galilee 2000 years ago may offer a scientific explanation for one of the miracles recounted in the Bible.

Nof said a patch of ice floating in the Sea of Galilee � which is actually a freshwater lake � would have been difficult to distinguish from unfrozen water surrounding it.

The idea of challenging religious beliefs with science is a continual topic of interest as individuals yearn to provide evidence to biblical events. On a similar note, scientists are debating whether or not satellites have discovered an anomaly believed to be the remnants of Noah’s Ark.

    First off the article states it’s possible that 2 times in 1500 years temperatures got that low, so the chances of the temp even being right are minimal. Beyond that you have all the apostels who were there, I think they would have noticed if Jesus was tricking them. And why wouldn’t Peter have walked on the same piece of ice instead of looking like a fool and sinking. It’s a ridiculous theory.

    I agree this article is ridiculous. Plus the Bible says it was during a storm… but heck, if Jesus could walk on a floating piece of ice, navigate it to what was probably a couple mile from shore to the disciple’s boat in a storm, and convince Peter to walk out toward him, that’s a miracle in itself.

    For proof of almighty power the whole thing is a little flaky, like the loaves and the fishes. If, after all, divinity can be proved by what could just as easily be a well executed parlor trick. Maybe David Copperfield should be the next messiah. it sounds a lot more like something humans do….just like the bible looks a lot like the books we humans typically write…ink on paper, bound in leather…no clear evidence of divinity there either… Illusions are fun, and immediately gratifying, but in the long run enormously destructive. As the cherished wish is betrayed and the life-saving prayer goes unanswered…then comes the hatred, and resentment…and moral barrenness. Leave the legends to the primitives, and stick to your principles… Why, after all, venerate legends about miracles when the miracle of life surrounds us every day?

    I wish the news had more worthwhile things, like critique of foreign policy, horrors of the World Bank and international economics, nuclear build-up, and things that really need attention.

    no more silly than the whole “nailed to stick back from 7-11 after SM-party thing” the yokels believe. religion is BS. you are the same decaying matter as everything else. nothing more. get over it. someday you are going to die. and there is nothing more.

    what Jesus did was unique and could not be performed without elaborate props. are we forgetting the time period at which this miracle was performed?
    walking on water, changing water into wine, healing the sick, raising the dead…sure, you can get magicians/entertainers to mimic these miracles today. but this day and age it ‘s all about the ‘show’. but what Jesus did, he didn’t do to entertain, he did it to show us who he really is. Magicians/entertainers can entertain…nothing more. Jesus showed that he had the power to give us life after death. now, you can believe that we’re all going to die and that there’s nothing more…but Jesus teaches that there will be something a lot worse than nothingness after death. Jesus values our lives and taught and showed that there’s so much more to life than this and by putting our trust in him, we will be saved from eternal suffering. we’re all unique and put on this planet for a reason. there is not one living thing on this planet or this universe that is remotely like us, physically or intellectually….it seems very futile and a complete waste to believe that our lives on this planet amount to nothing.

    The problem I have with stories like this, is they go in assuming the Bible is true, and then try to explain how it happened with ridiculous theories like this. Either believe it’s true or that it’s all made up. I don’t think you can say “Well, Jesus actually did do everything that they said He did in the Bible, but this is how He fooled everyone.” You gotta either believe they were miracles or stories that were made up. This guy is ignorant and is just trying to get attention.
