This will close and delete WgaTray.exe. It will then remove the associated registry keys.

After reboot you may manually delete WgaLonon.dll in your system32 folder if you wish.

Double click the cmd file to start, or copy and paste the following to create your own:

According to the new nag notices that appeared on my pc this morning, my copy of Windows XP is “NOT GENUINE.” That’s a pretty categorical statement, but I’ll take Microsoft’s word for it. Microsoft should know its own business.

I bought my pc from Dell Computer company brand new in November of 1992. It came with Windows XP on it from their factory. It’s a Dell Dimension 4550. On the side is a Microsoft XP Home Edition sticker with a Product Code that says “Certificate of Authenticity.” It looks to have a holograph on it too. The product code, near as I can tell (it’s small and hard to read and the pc is hard to get at) is:

xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

If as Microsoft now says, my copy of Windows XP is NOT GENUINE then apparently both your company and I should consider taking legal action against the Dell Computer company for selling computers will illegal, counterfeit copies of Windows XP.

I wanted to cc Dell Computer on this issue, but they don’t seem to make it easy to find a simple email address on their website. Perhaps that’s part of their plan.

I am not happy about this situation and am not going to jump through any hoops to get my copy of XP validated. I don’t have the time for it. Either it’s genuine as the sticker says, or it’s not. I paid for genuine. If Microsoft can’t tell whether it is or not (or worse, categorically says it’s NOT GENUINE), that’s not going to become my problem if I can help it. This is going to cost Microsoft as much of my business as I can make it cost. I’ve switched to the Opera browser and am now using Open Office for my word processing.

My recent post here said I got my Dell 4550 in 1992. Hmm, 2002 is more like it. Sorry.

All you have to do is go to “Install or Remove Program”

click on “Show updates” at the top

and scroll down to find “Windows Genuine Advantage ”

remove it, restart your computer and that’s it

says This update cannot be removed…………

so that may not work

Says cannot remove in Install and Remove….

What about the fact that it tells me “This update cannot be removed” ? Is there a way around that?

Hi well the wgankill.cmd is used in cmd.exe

1. go to run and type in cmd.exe
2. or start – all programs – Accessories – command prompt

*NOTE: wgatray.exe CANNOT be deleted if it is already running so you have to go into task manager and locate it then click end task

After that you should be able to delete it sucessfully :)

Easy job
1. Find wgatray.exe file in your system
2. Rename it e.g. 1wgatray.exe
3. open Task manager and delete wgatray.exe
4. delete 1wgatray.exe

First change the security settings of wgatray.exe so that system has “deny” access on all levels of the file. Than you can kill the process (task manager). An delete the file without any problem. Fuck those money sucking micro-shof a**whole*…

The Step by Step Procedure to get rid of the messege “This copy of Windows Is Not Genuine” is:

1. Do a search for “Wjatray.exe”
2. Now Start Task Manager
3. Go to Processes tab
4. Locate the process “Wjatray.exe”
5. Now end the process, and then quickly delete the files you found in the search. This must me done quickly because the process starts again in about 1.5 seconds. And the files can only be deleted when they are not in use. So be fast.
6. Restart the computer
7. Relax

1. Find wgatray.exe file in your system
2. Rename it e.g. 1wgatray.exe
3. open Task manager and delete wgatray.exe
4. delete 1wgatray.exe

Is it possible that “wgatray” or “wjatray” is named to something else? I can’t find that file in the system nor in the task manager.

Find you wgatray.exe right click on it, delete,but dont click yes yet,open task manager,find Wgtray.exe,end task,as soon as you pressed end task quickly press on Yes to confirm the delete…

So, if I successfully delete wgatray.exe and the “This copy is not genuine” crap goes away, what stops Microsoft from starting the problem all over again next time I download Windows security updates from them???

It was ok until step 6 was completed.
I found 2 files in the search and deleted the application (.exe) and the other with a kind of star for icon.
after several go I decided to do it on safe mode.
Now I can’t see the file (process) in task Manag. nor either of the files on search but one thing I can see is that damn “not genuive” msg???

I don’t know how “wjatray” turned up but I did work on “wgatray”. :)

Microsoft came out with a tool to remove the You may be the victim of software counterfeiting popup themselves, but you also can do it by using Hijackthis. It’s just a registry entry that points to their little annoyance that loads when you log in.

and wait when aperars the icon delete it inmediately
it works very well for me.
