Super bills – They do exist

10,000 dollar bill

According to a recent Yahoo news blip, a historical $10,000 bill is being transfered to a JP Morgan Chase & Co. corporate office in New York.

I had no idea such bills were once printed, nor was I aware that such high denominations still existed. The bill does not bear the head of any previous US President. Instead, Salmon P. Chase, a US Senator, adorns the bill face.

I think only 100 of this bills were printed, from serie B000000001A to B000000003M.
Now, why would someone want to carry a 10,000 bucks bill anyway??. A 10,000 HSBC check would be safer and better.

I believe the largest bill ever printed was either a 50,000 note or a 100,000 note. I remember seeing it at the U.S. Treasury building. The only reason why it comes to mind is that I remember who’s on it: Woodrow Wilson.

I remember seeing ultra-high denomination notes as well, but up near the 100,000 mark. If memory serves they were for bank-to-bank or bank-to-reserve transfers of immensly large amounts of money in times before you could ‘wire’ it, and that they were only printed for one or two years.

I think also that they were gold certificates; e.g. it represented a full 100,000 worth of gold to the bearer.

It’d be sweet to make a beeline to the nearest titty bar with a fistful of these hombres in tow. I’d be able to bring home my very own Anna Nicole Smith!
