My lunch break for this?

I was with everyone else when Apple released their products yesterday. I had tabs open to all of the popular Mac websites, including even mine and as I refreshed, every new section was more depressing than the previous. The Mac mini with bonjour and a remote is pretty cool but it yields a higher price tag and lacks standalone graphics and is not much more powerful than today’s Mac mini.

Apple’s Hi-Fi boom box, is competitively priced, believe it or not because you can purchase the tiny Bose Sound Dock for $299 and the Klipsch iPod compatible set for almost $400. Neither of those units have a built in battery pack, an integrated power supply, the sound accuracy or the cool Apple integration like a “speaker setting on the iPod that controls certain aspects of the boom box.

Apple’s leather cases are a joke and no one will be taken by their high price and lack of functionality. Apple’s iPods have always been great but none of their cases, docks, cables or other accessories have been very functional, well priced and fill a need. The only thing for the iPod I fell in love with was the Sport case for iPod shuffle and that’s it. These new cases are $99 and are supposedly Italian leather and say iPod on the front. I can get a case from Proporta, Boxwave or Pielframa (my personal favorite) and spend 30 to 50 dollars less and get a much more capable case with even more features.

Apple has great leverage right now and when they have a special event, everyone comes. A few more events like this and the press is not going to spend their dollars to send people out if Apple releases a boom box and an overpriced case.

nice rant, i agree with you

  • Dan0

agreed. pretty weak overall -no radio – no a/v outs. apple should take that one back to the drawing board.

I was expecting something fun!? not something slightly changed. Very dissapointed

Yeah, I was mildly shocked that it was such a relatively pointless event.

I was expecting much more as well. rather disappointed

I was expecting diferent sized monitors on the MacBook Pros, but nooooooo, we get this bs

I can understand the iPod Hi-fi, even the Mac Mini with Intel, but a $99 leather case? This is a big “WTF?” for Apple fans around the world . . .

Hey come on, check out how much more kit you’re getting in that low end mini . . . That’s pretty good value to me!

    Airport
    Bluetooth
    2 more USB ports
    Optical In and Out
    Bigger HD
    More RAM
    Remote Control

Come on guys, wakey wakey, this is great Mac mini. (^_^)

  • Emory

    @James
Yeah, I was excited at first about the macmini, but COME ON! SHARED MEMORY?!?!?!?!! WTF…

Ps. then they go and top it off with those piece of shit ipod cases. Agh.

The new Mac Minis look great, they have alot of new features and faster processors, and besides the crappy shared graphics, they are a great value for the price.

But seriously, for gods sake, WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THOSE $100 CASES?! That is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard. If you buy a hundred dollar case that doesnt have access to any ports just because it has the Apple brand on it, you should be shot. grrrrrr.

It probably would’ve been innovative to chuck the MagSafe connector onto the back. They could include a small battery as well, just enough charge to tell the mac mini to warn the user, go to sleep and stay asleep for 30minutes or so. The Mac Mini seems like something that could be catapaulted off a desk by a poorly placed footstep into a tangle of cables (i know therres only one power cable, but once you include ethernet/speakers/display/usb/firewire, it just goes on and on doesnt it :P)

oh and “What? No built in iSight?”
