Fear the mighty Super Database!

Google is AT IT AGAIN, just after I began to give them some credit.

The internet giant, is planning a massive online facility that could store copies of users’ hard drives – a move set to spark alarm among civil liberties campaigners.

Plans for the “GDrive”, previously the subject of rumour among computer experts, were revealed accidentally after notes in a slideshow were wrongly published on Google’s site.

The device would create a mirror image of data stored on consumers’ computer hard drives, letting users search data stored on other computers via Google accounts.

Although the service SEEMS good, I am not a person that is comfortable with ONE COMPANY holding all my information. If you want good online storage use Box.net. They are giving away 1GB of storage and only charging pennies per GB. Plus, we like and use them.

I think I would be pretty comfortable with them, as long as I can pick and choose what files to store with them and what not to. I don’t think Google needs a copy of my Windows registry and source code that I’m working on.

Box.net looks cool though, a friend and I were looking for a way to send big files back and forth.

That’d be pretty nifty to store all my photos and music. Plus when I buy a song, just upload it, instead of burning it on a DVD-RW

Haha,i don’t have interesting stuff for google in my PC :P,in fact, uploading 80,100 or more GB per person…i dunno but my conection isn’t that good :P. Box.net is very good :),its good to share files with friends when they are not online :).I don’t belive this new google idea completely.A backup or store solution, yes. But not that big ;)

    Google’s Next Frontier…

Google is known for thinking big. They indexed the web, the news, all your email and before long, every book ever printed. Hell, they even indexed the earth. And lately, the industry is abuzz with the leaked information that google is planning GDriv…

granted, it is a little daunting at how big google is getting, but have they ever really abused how much they know about us? i mean they denied the government access to search histories, which only include things that we look for, not our conversations with other people, not our screenname, not our phone number, but just what we are interested in.
