This is why you always carry your own luggage

I couldn’t believe these figures. On average airlines lose 10,000 bags per day?! That’s ludacris [purposely mispelled] I tell you!

U.S. airlines last year lost about 10,000 bags a day on average, the worst performance since 1990.

The rate of lost suitcase reports per 1,000 passengers on flights soared 23% from a year earlier, according to recent numbers from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Among the reasons: a surge in the number of passengers, airline budget cuts, backed-up flights and tighter inspections of luggage.

This is one of the reasons why I rarely, if ever, check-in luggage when I go on trips. If I end up having to pack more than I can carry-on, that means I’m packing too much.

10000 bags a day out of how many bags total? Let’s say around 2 million people with like 1.5 bags each? That’s 0.003%. Now, baggage handling isn’t exactly six sigma, but that’s not that bad. Here’s what I can’t stand–people carrying everything they own carry-on, slowing down boarding and unboarding, and taking up 1+ passenger’s worth of overhead space.

i did that on purpose. i even prevented spell check from correcting it.

and to boohiss, you seem kind of negative. i’m glad i haven’t had to travel next to you. sure, the overall percentage is low, but think of the inconvenience for those that loose their luggage on no fault of their own. let’s wait and see how you react when your priceless items are misplaced or lost. sheesh.

I fly continental airlines buisness class, and they have a jetway luggage service for us buisness types(Used my dad’s buisness to book the flight). Basically you put a little tag on your luggage, leave it in the jetway (ever see a random pile of luggage in the jetway?) and the crew packs it last. Upon arrival, the crew puts the tagged luggage in the arriving jetway, I just grab it, and I’m on my way.

Carry on works well for most airlines, but ONLY if you have the right sized bags. Buy the special carry-on luggage and you’ll naver have a problem. It’s the stupid people with gigantic(and obviously fake) louis vuitton bags, they are the ones trying to cram their bag where it shouldn’t be, delaying our flight.
