Telegrams are now obsolete

“Effective January 27, 2006, Western Union will discontinue all Telegram and Commercial Messaging services,” the company said on its Web site.

Thats it, it’s all over. With that simple statement, Western Union has stopped delivering Telegrams, after 145 year run.

Damn, now my primary form of communications is dead, guess I’ll have to start using the telephone.

For a bit of history, the first telegram was sent on May 24, 1844 by Samuel Morse. His message: “What hath God wrought,” was sent from Washington to Baltimore. No word on why they didn’t just carry the message the 44 miles by horse and buggy.

Telegram, may you rest in peace.

I didn’t even know you could still send them…. let alone they would soon be dead… :( I literally read that and was like “OH CRAP I NEED TO SEND ONE TOMORROW ON MY WAY TO WORK!” …… to late :(
