Oh now I’m PISSED: MacBook Pros get processor bump, tops at 2.16GHz

No, the it’s not a new MacBook Pro — the damned thing’s not even out yet — but it looks like Apple’s one-upping themselves on the MacBook Pro’s CPU speeds, and has revamped the scale. Now their entry-level $2,000 MacBook Pro has a 1.83GHz Core Duo (up from 1.67GHz), and the $2,499 model has a 2GHz processor (up from 1.83GHz) with an option to upgrade to a 2.16GHz chip for another $300.

Ok, so is the delay because they couldn’t come up with the chips? Also, will existing orders get the new revised chips? Although the additional speed is welcomed, Apple this one hell of a time to do a ‘one more thing.’ [via]

Dan, you have nothing to worry or be pissed about… you are getting the faster processor as a “free” upgrade. There will be no 1.67GHz version…

“All models of the new MacBook Pro will ship with faster Intel Core Duo processors than previously announced, delivering even greater performance at no additional cost. The $2,499 model now includes a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from the previously announced 1.83 GHz, and will begin shipping this week. The $1,999 model now includes a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from the previously announced 1.67 GHz, and will begin shipping next week. In addition, customers may now upgrade to a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor as a build-to-order option on the Apple Online Store.”
