Why aren’t cars built like this anymore?

A 13 year old Toyota diesel versus the physical elements of our modern world. Driven and bashed through the streets of Bristol, drowned in salt water, bashed with a wrecking ball, set on fire, and strapped to the top of a 240 foot building scheduled for demolition. Althought the old vehicle came out a little more mangled each time, the thing was built like a rock and driven away each time.

Yup that is a great video of it, for all people not in the UK this is shown on top gear, if you like their material you can download episodes via torrent at http://www.finalgear.com

This is not an advertisement it is just to explain to people not in the UK how to recieve topgear and a similar TV program called fifth gear.

It was submitted to digg, so watch out.

the problem with cars these days is that they’r built out of aluminum, plastic, carbon fiber, and synthetics. i’m not complaining though. you think people are complaining about gas usage and prices right now, image a life were auto manufacturers building cars out of good ol’ fashioned steel.

the wrecking ball was the least impressive part of the video. bringing down a building and bumping into the tailgate of a truck are 2 different things. impressive overall, though.

true. i imagine the wrecking ball would have wreaked more havoc had they actually allowed it to gain momentum.

I wish we still had our good old Toyota… but with all the trouble with the electronics and stuff, the upkeep just wasn’t worth it!
