SlimServer – Simple iTunes file sharing server

For the longest time, I relied on the free Slim Devices SlimServer for allowing access to my iTunes music collection over the net.

SlimServer 6.2 powers the new Squeezebox network music player, as well as the award-winning original Squeezebox and SLIMP3 players, and is the best software to stream your music to any software MP3 player. It supports MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and more!

If you’re interested in a simple – near one-step – process for sharing your iTunes library (or individual playlists) over the net, check it out. While the software itself was designed to feed your Slim Devices media player, the standalone installer will allow any users to access your library over the net.

While I understand the simplicity of the Slim Server software, my understanding is that it actually converts the files (not the original files, but makes a copy) to the mp3 format and then streams the mp3. I don’t like that, anyhow, personally piques aside, i recommend using a SSH tunnel with Itunes. NOw this wont work for linux users, and in my case, that doent matter, as I use just osx and XP. I just got my 2000t and all of my songs are skipping in iTunes, and I cant figure out why. If someone could help me out and tell me how to fix this I would really appreciate it because its driving me crazy. Thanks for the replys.
