SkypeOut for a fee, or VoIP Stunt for free

The history of the Internet is littered with references to free VoIP providers such as, MyFreeLD.com, DialPad, Net2Phone, Skype, Gizmo Project – the list goes on.

Clearly the leader in the sector at the moment is Skype, with their paid SkypeOut service. Granted for VoIP, the rates that are offered are DIRT CHEAP, but not as cheap as free. Enter VoIP Stunt.

If you check out their website you will see that not only is calling to the entire US free but that you can call a laundry list of other countries as well. The software promises no adware, malware, or spyware, which is a major plus, but I still attach my standard privacy policy warning.

Not sure what their revenue model is, but their loss is your gain!

I live in the Uk and can make free landline calls without skypeout!
    Awesome

  • Paul

i tried that too but it had some significant lag.. but as long as it is free, i dun mind the lagging.. =)

  • Dan

Now everyone should call our tipline

  • Ross

Its crap, unless you pay €5 to your account, your calls are limited to 1 minute in length,

  • Paul

You don’t have to put on €5 at all, I stayed on the phone for at least 15 minutes and have not had to pay a penny what so ever.

Yes, but here in the US, we can make free lnadline calls, but nobody can call us…

I had Skype Out a couple months ago and put it on my pda, since I don’t have a cell. Yeah, it’d be nice to recieve voicemails like SkpyeIn using this. I’ll download it later.

wow. nice find. they’re still in beta. i have a feeling that once the service goes public they’ll start charging a flat fee for unlimited calls.

This is great! There was a touch of a delay in a long distance call, but was perfect otherwise. I’d have to concur with Derek though, I don’t think they can keep it free forever. But maybe, if they’re ad supported…

  • Adam

Wow thats all i got to say. How long do you think it will last?

  • Rene

Unfortunately, there is a limit to the number of calls you make before it asks you to buy credit. It was nice to at least make several calls overseas.

  • raghu

hi its nice compared to voip buster which charges for call in US and germany.thanks

  • Paulus

installed Voipstunt two weeks ago. made one free – ok call. came back from a trip today and tried to make a call. could not use it unless i paid €10 – not €5 as was the rate a week ago.

  • SiDi

too bad voice buster and voip stunt are from the same company eh? From what i have heard, voipbuster charged 5 dollars for unlimited calls also and after a few weeks began to charge more for calls. Much like voip stunt is about to do, but 5 dollars is way worth it :D

  • Jarred

    I just downloaded Voipstunt,

it great, and I manage to call for free to 30 friends over seas,
and seems I am already at the limite of free calls…

So shall I add ¢G10 for unlimited, or will the similar thing
    with Voipbuster happen Voipstunt?

Hey…this is just great i can call all my friend all over the world….i live in Lisbon, but i got alot of friends in Belgium….
I just got a question….does it work also for mac?…does someone knows if there a mac version?
    Thanks

  • Flori

Eh well I’ve been using VoipBuster for e few months now, but now they started charging. Granted it’s not terribly expensive but I just found something else out which makes it more expensive! You see, I too had to deposit 5 euros to get my free calls. Well I just received a notice that my credit will expire on March 11. I’d considered using it…..but not if that’s the way the’re going to be! After digging around the web site a bit I discovered that your credit automatically expires after 3 months! So if you don’t use up the 10 euros you deposited….then you lose the remaining balance! Ok, so I call relatives in Germany once a week for about an hour 3months x 4 weeks X 60minutes X .005c/min = 3.60……so I’d lose 6.40 on the deal. Add to this the fact that the connection, while understandable, is not always the best…..and I see no reason not to use a cheap calling card.

Since VoipStunt is identical to VoipBuster (even the web-site is basically a clone) I’m guessing it will follow suite. So unless you actually use often enough to justify the cost, I would advise you NOT to pay the deposit.

Hope this helps anyone interested in trying out the service.
