Howard Stern broadcasts for free?!

As fair warning, the following Shoutcast streams are not supported by Sirius so now whining if these Howard Stern streams happen to disappear.

Well, now it looks like Howard Stern’s Sirius Show is being rebroadcast, too. This is great for cheapskates who don’t want to invest in Sirius just to listen to Howard. Not so good news for Sirius.

I don’t consider myself a Stern fan but it is a little humorous to open the stream from now and then to get a chuckle while listening to the raw Stern personality.

    these aren’t sirius broadcasts

  • Derek

i never stated these were sirius streams. someone kindly ripped the originals and made them availble through shoutcast.

What’s the matter…you can’t afford $12.95/month? Or is it just that you can’t find a place to put the Sirius antenna on your double-wide?

  • Derek

oooh ouch. that’s a good one ryan. i actually don’t have a good place to mount it on my cardboard box. it gets too soggy in the wet weather and anything i try and clip to the side ends collapsing my box. ;)

actually, i personally do not see the need for satellite radio when i can choose exactly what i want to hear on my own player.

  • Ryan

So you live in a cardboard box? Actually, I have more respect for you now than I did when I thought you lived in a double-wide. At least you only suffer from a lack of money, rather than a lack of class.

Let me explain the source of the biting comments in my previous post…

I am a Sirius subscriber (have been for several years now). The main reason I got satellite radio was because I was tired of the endless parade of commercials that has invaded traditional radio. It truly has become a situation where they are taking occasional music breaks between their usual commercial programming. I had, for a long time, said that if they came out with a form of commercial-free radio that I’d gladly pay (just as I’ve said that I’d pay for commercial-free TV network programming). Well, somebody actually listened to me (and, of course, others) and came out with commercial-free satellite radio. To get started, Sirius and XM had to lay out hundreds of millions of dollars in order to launch satellites and set up studios for their dozens of music channels. Additionally, the cost of employing a handful of DJs is nothing to sneeze at. Despite these costs, the companies are only charging subscribers $13/month (while many cable companies are charging double that amount PER WEEK). Sirius and XM listeners are praying to God that satellite radio survives…otherwise we’re back to being mindless commercial drones. Since Sirius paid big money to get Howard Stern (over half a billion for the next five years) it is critical that they AT LEAST make back what they’re paying him. If folks like you listen to his show without paying, they won’t.

Now, I’m not giving you a lecture on stealing. I’ll be honest and tell you that I regularly download music on Kazaa (in fact, I haven’t bought a CD in years). The way I see it, though, I’m ripping off the greedy record company executives that take most of the sales proceeds (Tommy Motola is a heck of a lot wealthier than 50 Cent) more than the artists themselves. I have said all along that if the artists would just produce their own music and sell it on their website, I’d be glad to pay a dollar or two per song. I don’t mind paying people for doing something, but I do mind paying people for doing nothing.

I guess the moral of the story is that its not whether or not you steal, but rather who you steal from. By stealing from Sirius, you are possibly crippling a company that is making a positive change in American culture.

P.S. In addition to the lack of commercials, there’s another reason I subscribe to satellite radio…it keeps me up to date on new music, so that I have something to download. How do you keep from becoming musically stagnant?

    shame on whoever “steals” music!

i’ll refrain from sharing how i find my entertainment. hint: pots and pans banged at certain intervals is actually quite relieving.

anyway, i’ve been tuning into pandora lately. i sacrificed my music collection recently to make use of the room for more important ergh… files.

For the most part, I’m with Ryan. I’d gladly pay a fee (but don’t at the moment, due to budgetary constraints). I generally listen to whatever I can over the Internet, but even that is becoming more and more commercial. I will definitely be looking into satellite radio in the near future.

I have been a Sirius Subscriber since Dec 2004, I can honestly tell you I have never listened to FM radio since. It’s boring, its limited and all the DJs sound the same to me.

I drive for a living and have been for some time approx 5 hours a day. Prior to being a Sirius Subscriber, I would often drive with the radio off. It was just annoting listening to the same old crap day after day after day. If you listen to FM radio, think about what your hearing. No, I mean really thing about what your hearing. I live right next to one of the biggest cities in America (Philadelphia) and I had about 4 rock stations to listen to. Another 3 hip/hop or rap (both sound the same to me) stations to pick from. A few elevator music stations and nothing else worth mentioning.

If I wanted a tedious unpaid job, I had it:
Jump in the car and click, click, click between the same few stations. Over and Over again until I could find one song I liked.

I could go on and on forever, my point is: FM IS TRASH! IT HAS NOBODY INTERESTING, IT HAS NO HOLYWOOD TALENT INTERVIEWS, IT HAS NO MUSICIAN INTERVIEWS ON A DAILY BASIS, NO NFL STARS EVERYDAY OF THE WEEK CALLING IN.

FM is not worth its free price tag.

    Sirius brings me:
    NEWS
TV (Listen to multiple tv stations)
SPORTS: Unparalled Sports Stars on a daily basis
    COMEDY
    ROCK
    CLASSIC ROCK
    HEAVY METAL
    RAP
    JAZZ
    FINANCE
    TALK
    and a lot more……
