The Samsung DRM Phone

Seems like T-Mobile really did it this time. They have restricted the MP3 function on the newly realeased Samsung T809, to only play DRM’ed MP3′s.

UPDATE: It seems that a program called Media Audio Cutter allows you to encode DRM-MP3′s. When will anyone LEARN.

UPDATE 2: Friend of the site smash, is working on a way to get mobile17 to distribute these ass backwards DRM-MP3′s to cellphones in case this becomes a disturbing trend.

I tried download the Media Audio Cutter and then tried the sample file for my T809 and it says Not Supported on my phone. Any ideas?

Just rename your mp3 file extension to .3gp and put it on your phone and set it as ringtone. voila.

What I meant was when I try to execute the task in MediaAudioCutter using the unregistered verison it doesn’t let you but does prompt with a window and URL to download the sample file. When I try to download that file it seeems as my phone does try and goes up to 2** K and then my phone says UNSUPPORTED CONTENT and as far as I know does not actually download into the phone?? what should i do? thanks and you can email me at josh222@charter.net
    thanks for the help

UPDATE. I see what you meant now about renaming the file to .3gp. You can basically take any MP3 and rename it to that file extention and then you can use it as a ringtone. Very cool. Also there is no need for Media Audio Cutter since the software that comes with the phone cuts the music also right? I do notice though that the volume of the tone is very low when used as a ringtone though, is that right? If I play it on the MP3 player its actually much louder. Is there any way to fix this?
