[...] You can now run Google Earth on you Mac. The catch is, it’s not “offically” from Google. A “very mysterious person” sent a download link to a blog called UneasySilence.com, and they have posted the link. Now remember this is NOT from Google, it is a leaked version from an unknown source, so some websites are recommending caution when installing this software as it may contain malware – no one has reported any problems yet. The Google Earth application apparently connects to Google servers for the information and graphics displayed in the program, which can make it kind of slow. Also since it is a graphic heavy program, some users are reporting very slow performance on older machines. You can find the download link at: UNEASYsilence.com. [...]

finally! What a scoop. It’s neat and seems fully functional, but it sure runs like shit on my single Power Mac G5 1.8/1.5GB/nVidia Geforce 5200 – an admittedly modest machine. Either it’s a rocky early beta or it’s a good demo of the awesome superiority of the Intel platform’s raw processing and video power. Don’t worry, the new Macs oughtta be bulking up soon :)

Just have an old 667Mhz PowerBookG4 with an ISDN line and it works fine. Not instant, but usable.

  • getaclue

    The link works fine.
    - Click on the link.
    - On first page, scroll down and hit Free.
    - On the next page, scroll down and watch the countdown timer run until it is finished, then the screen is refreshed and displays three graphic characters that must be typed into in inputbox, then press the download button.
    - Very simple, I don’t see why Dave (#15) is complaining. Worked fine for me.

Pentium III. Tak m?žu alepo? použít “klí?ovou dírku”.

yup, google earth only works with the mac computer that has the program “TIGER” installed into it. Thats what happened to mine also! Arggggg. Btw, one comment, you shouldnt post files that are related to torrents.

Works fine for me running 10.4.3. It does bounce in the dock for quite a while before launching. I have a G4 iBook with 256MB of RAM, so I was surprised it worked. A bit buggy, but I was expecting that.

“yup, google earth only works with the mac computer that has the program “TIGERâ€Â? installed into it. Thats what happened to mine also! Arggggg. Btw, one comment, you shouldnt post files that are related to torrents.”

Really, are you guys stupid or what? “The progream ‘TIGER’”? “TIGER” is the newest Mac OS X version, it’s an operating system not a program. Ugh….too many stupid people on the internet. I don’t see how this file relates to torrents, but why shouldn’t he post files related to torrents anyway? What’s wrong with torrents? They are just another way of downloading files.

“huh, this looks like an early try-out, a proof of concept build. i don’t think much – if any – work has been spent to make it ‘os x’ like (why on earth (ha, pun!) should there be an option to use direct x on os x ?!). and it’s not even an evidence that google earth for os x is coming. although the buzz generated by it could bring google into the situation where it developes such a thing.”

This program is as “OS X like” as it can be. It has been completely rewritten to OS X (it has to be…X is Unix-based while Windows is completely different). This obviously means there will be a final version for OS X sometime soon.

“So this versions only for 10.4 , eh. Is there anyway to upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.4 without buying it?”

Ummm….NO. You could get a pirated version if you were smart enough, but considering you are asking such a dumb question in the first place I would assume you don’t know how.

I swear, people just get dumber and dumber every day…

Bob Squared whoever he is, is an idiot. If you want google earth for mac, go to http://www.torrentz.com search google earth for mac, click on the file that sais google earth for mac osx and then click the link that it sais to download on. Then go to versiontracker.com and download bittorent, if you do not already have it. Then Drag the torrent that you downloaded off of torrentz.com and drag it to bit torrent and press start (it might start automaticly). Download time varies depending on what time you download it at and how many people have the file already. Mine finished downloading within 10 minutes. For me it works fine on my powerbook g4 1.67 ghz procceser with 1 gb of sdram and 128 mbs of video ram but is a little slow getting to your destination. But it does work quite nicely for me even without an internet connection. I am so glad that they finally made it.

  • Bob Squared

wtf jared. But thanx for telling me how to getit i love it but it is incredibly slow on my computer

I was lucky enough to get GoogleEarth Mac when it was first posted. It works fine on my iMac G4 1 GHz. However, I have tried to send the zipped Google Earth file to a friend via YouSendIt and it will not allow the download. It seems to upload the file fine from me, though. Has Google somehow succeeded in blocking YouSendIt?

    Hi All Experts,
Does anyone use google earth images as ground image planes for use in aerial scenes. I know how to stitch them together but are there any tools or tricks to make sure that the images are at the same height, angle and such to make sure they stitch well. I know in the pro version you can get bigger images but im not going to pay for the pro version when i could stitch multiple images together…

‘just read this May 6, 2007!!!

Before searching and finding this blog today and after downloading GoogleEarth (last week) on my Mac iBook 10.3.9 it took me a few hours wondering why I couldn’t get it to work. It took me almost 30 minutes of reading this blogg to finally find out I need Mac 10.4 operating system.

It downloaded and works like a charm on my PC desktop with Windows XP operating system.

    Thanks for all the input:)
