Yahoo! Maps AJAX API
If you haven’t had a chance to check out the latest AJAX / Flash powered Yahoo! Maps local search, check it out. The question as to whether or the latest Yahoo! offered an API was posed in a previous comment. The answer is yes, Yahoo! does offer the API for developers to build web services to utilize the latest Yahoo! Maps offering. One such example is the Local Events Browser.
The Event Browser queries Yahoo! Local Events via a map-driven experience leveraging the new Yahoo! Maps AJAX API. We’ll start you out in a map view of San Francisco, looking at all events for today and the next two days. Pick another location, other days, or a particular type of event to see all the events that the Event Browser finds that match your choices.
Although the demo is limited to San Francisco, CA, Local Event Browser is a great example of the features made possible when utilizing free web API’s. To change the location hight the title above the map and replace with your current US city (thanks Jonathan). Local Events Browser makes use of the Maps 4.0, Term Extraction, Image Search, Local Search, and Geocoding API’s.
