Windows Live domain services?!

I’m not sure why anyone with an existing domain would want to register for Windows Live.

Looks like Microsoft is offering free e-mail hosting (20 e-mail accounts, 250MB / account, web-based access) and automatic .NET Passport access on those accounts (enabling MSN Messenger, MSN Spaces, etc.). #

Check it out for yourself. Maybe… just maybe new registrants will have access to the new Microsoft mail service?

okay, so I tried it. I was hoping maybe the new service would give me something similar to OWA for web mail and true Exchange integration for Outlook. Hey, they’re Microsoft, they can do this!

But no. I put in a domain I’m not using anymore, changed my mx record over. I had to switch from Firefox to IE for the registration to complete, their ‘verify DNS settings’ doesn’t work in Firefox.

But then when you add a user the user justs get a hotmail acount. You log in at http://www.HotMail.com and it even says:

A Hotmail account has been reserved for you.
Please be aware that after you activate your account it will remain active only if you:
Sign-in at least once within the next 10 days.
Sign-in at least once every 30 days after the initial (10) day period.

WFT? I would assume this part changes in the commercial release.

Well this one actually worked for me.Its not like tbdean says i just do all that is required then i can check mymail@mydomain.com over at Hotmail.com.So its kinda cool..because i did not like the squirrel mail that came along with my webspace!..hey after all somethings are free from MS!..leaving out legal harassment ;-)

I was hoping to use their service so that I don’t have to manage my own email server.. but looks like I won’t be doing that anytime soon…hotmail doesn’t allow me to forward email, which is really suck. I would like to forward all my mail from hotmail to gmail, because I really hate the UI in hotmail.
