Microsoft admits defeat! Kind of.

Microsoft has released a plug-in for the rival open-source Firefox browser to allow users to validate their Windows-based systems prior to downloading software updates from the company. #

Microsoft has finally smartened up by providing a standalone plugin allowing Firefox users the ability to download software updates without having to load Internet Explorer. It was only a matter of time as the number of Firefox users continued to increase the popular browsers marketshare.

If you’re interested in installing the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) [Firefox] plugin, point your browser here [Microsoft.com]. You will be prompted by the above window for download instructions. Click ‘OK’ and a download window will request your permission to save the .EXE installation file.

Well it wont work for me at all, but I found it interesting that Microsoft used the “filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Gradient” style in order to allow the gradient to display in Firefox.

I got it to work manually, I searched Google for thge direct link to the .exe file: http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/e/2/2e2598d0-8b6b-414f-8da5-5ae67b291e1a/WGAPluginInstall.exe

Now if only Microsofr Update worked in Firefox ;-P
