Gmail supports alternate FROM: addresses
Thanks to Cracell for bringing this new Gmail feature to my attention.
If you’re logged into Gmail, click on the settings link and look for the new ‘Accounts’ tab. Gmail users now have the option to edit what email address is displayed as the FROM: address when sending messages from Gmail. I know this has been a highly requested feature for many Gmail users wishing to use their Gmail accounts as their main email account.

If you happen to juggle mulitple Gmail / email accounts for various uses, you can now add those accounts to one single Gmail account. Set up your other accounts to forward mail to you main account. Also remember to create appropriate labels and filters for forwarded messages to remind yourself to double check the FROM: address when composing. When creating messages, you can choose which account email to use for sending via a simple drop down menu. Gmail does require that you do indeed own the other addresses using verification emails.
We’re one step closer to being able to manage POP3 accounts from one single Gmail account. No more bouncing between seperate Gmail accounts! Due to the fact that Gmail is still in ‘Beta’, this new feature may not be available to all users. I’m not sure if this is going to be a permanent feature or is being treated as some sort of test bed for future features.
Update 08.21.05: If you’re not seeing the new FROM feature in your account, follow this link. Follow the directions and you’ll soon have the drop down menu for alternate FROM addresses.
