How-to: Search Del.icio.us from Firefox address bar

Here’s a quick little how-to for searching your del.icio.us links and tags from the Firefox address bar.

  • First go to Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks… In the left column look for the ‘Quick Search’ folder. If the folder does not exist, create it by going to File > New Folder.
  • Second, you’ll need to create two new bookmarks in the ‘Quick Search’ folder. Enter the following information into the new bookmark properties windows:

    Name: Find del.icio.us tags
    Location: http://del.icio.us/search/?search=tag%3A%s
    Keyword: tags

    Name: Search my del.icio.us
    Location: http://del.icio.us/search/?search=%s
    Keyword: del

  • You’ll want to make sure your del.icio.us cookie has already been saved from the previous login.
  • To search your del.icio.us bookmarks including the extended descriptions, you can hit CTRL / CMD + L (to jump to the address bar) and type del ‘search string’ [enter]. If you want to see all your bookmarks for a particular tag(s) hit CTRL /CMD + L and type tags ‘tag name or names’ [enter]. Alternatively you can change the keywords ‘del’ and ‘tags’ to whatever you prefer.

You can also go through and add keywords for your other bookmarks for faster access to pages. http://www.uneasysilence.com could be ‘ues’.
