How-to: Play with Microsoft Powertoys
Did you know that Microsoft was kind enough to release little utilities to improve your Windows XP computing experience? Microsoft has conveniently coined these utilities Microsoft PowerToys. Doesn’t the idea of playing with toys on WinXP improve your day a little? There are a handful of utilities that you may find useful. Rather then going into detail for each , I will briefly cover the Tweak UI utility.
The first step is navigating to the Microsoft PowerToys homepage. In the right-hand column, locate and download the TweakUI application. Install into the default directory and run the utility. The Tweak UI interface is self-explantatory. The left column lists ‘tweakable’ attributes on WinXP while the right side provides explanations and options. For this how-to we will remove the arrows from desktop shortcuts:

Feel free to try the rest of the PowerToys. One notable utility worth downloading is the ClearType Tuner which makes it a little easier to read text on your screen. Feel free to leave comments if you’re looking for additional assistance.
