You sound like someone who can help me maybe… I’ve been trying to get a rom update for a pda from an overseas co. called Matsunichi, i-mat IP3230. It is distributed here in the US by goldlantern.com, I bought mine at Fry’s. Anyways, I want a rom update to enable the SD slot to accept SDIO. I understand other companies such as HP have released rom updates taht do this, so I know this is possible, but I can’t get anyone from Matsunichi to return my Emails, and Goldlatern simply doesn’t give a rat’s — . Can you help me?

WiFi card drivers for Treo 650

An enterprising Treo 650 user named Shadowmite has used the PalmOne WiFi drivers for the Tungsten T5 as a basis to create a set of preliminary–but functional–WiFi card drivers for the Treo 650. The drivers support the PalmOne WiFi card only.

There is, unfortunately, a catch. Installing the WiFi card driver disables internet access through the cellular network. This is the case on the Sprint Treo 650s the drivers have been tested on so far, and presumably will be the case with the GSM Treos when they show up early next year. At this moment, the only way to restore access through the cell network is to hard reset the device and restore a backup from prior to the installation of the WiFi driver.

Has anyone gotten the Palm WiFi driver to work on a T2?

The normal PalmOne WiFi software supports 802.1x and EAP authentication. Anyone know how I can get this functionality on the T650 using the above drivers? Thanks!!

The Treo 650 Unlocked Is the only way to go, If you have a 600 there are many sites to buy sims cards and UNLOCK your locked phone, I just took the sims card out of my ATT phone, Then I tried my wifes Verizon sims card and called London, pay back is a Bitch :} Later Bill

I would appreciate a patch that would eliminate the several second pause when dialing a phone number (especially with contacts) on the Sprint Treo 650.

I installed the prc as above. It put me into a endless series of resets. I got that stopped and did a hard reset then installed again. That took care of the endless resets, now it just reset on its own every so often. Suggestions?
I am having probems connecting to a wireless network I should be able to connect to. It shows I make a connection, but no signal strength. Again suggestions?

I’ve got a similar problem with cawingzfan , I tried with WiFi Setup , Its can’t detect my Access Point which I used with my Mac/PC. Very strange. then I try Hard Reset , start over. Still not working…..

When I try to try to install the drivers, it says it’s loading the information then when it asks for you to insert the SD Disk and press Next, it loops and doesn’t go anywhere. Ideas?

It may only work on PalmOne’s WiFi card for Treo 650. The driver does not work with SocketCom’s SD 802.11b WLAN Card.

from what i have read above it seems that the wifi for a 650 will only work if its using palmOne’s wifi card and not a sandisk SDIO card, and with that if the driver is installed you wont be able to get access through your cellular network to get online, so its one or the other… is that right? or should i jus get a O2 mini???

After it reboots twice, it asks me to insert the wifi card. I insert it, hit OK, and it says the wifi card

Just to let you know the Rogers Wireless sells it Treo 650 with the DUN through Blue tooth Already !Enabled!

When the update of Palm OS to 1.04 from http://www.palmone.com/support, DUN hacking and WIFI 650 does not work.

why does my treo 650 keep turning itself on after its turned off with the wi-fi installed?

Mental – only install this if you don’t want GPRS access, your bluetooth to stop working, and you enjoy watching your new Treo 650 resetting itself after every phone call. Also handy if you like performing a hard reset and reconfiguring everything. Other than that this is absolutely a waste of time.

I’m having the same problems as Rudy and few of the other folks are having. My Treo keeps resetting itself and more than that the wi-fi card lists all the available signals however when trying to connect says successfully connected however the connection is not established. Shadowmite are you aware of this problem? Do you intend to take a look at them when you get time? And has anyone been able to use the wi-fi drivers successfully?

It was a great effort you have put Shawdomite in getting the drivers install but could you please spend some time to at least acknowledge that there is a problem?

I call Palm one Today, because I had some minor issue with my 650
After they solve my problem, I ask the status of the WiFi, and I got a strange answer, the answer was that they are working on a new set of Driver to enable WiFi on the 650, and I ask What about the Hardware, the answer was no need; they will use the existing Bluetooth Hardware
It doesn’t sound right to me.

I got the WiFi card installed, I even got it to show a strong signal to my home network but Blazer just sat there. Also, the constant resets were quite annoying. Thanks for the driver but I think it needs a little tweeking.

Whne I get the WiFi card to work with good signal, HOW do I get on line. It looks like nothing happens! What button do I push? It’s not in my manual ofcourse, as they dont want this to work for us. After I installed the wireless drivers my Treo 650 wouldn’t shut off! I’d turn it off and it would waite a couple seconds and turn back on. It just stayed in this loup. I finally had to do a hard reset and give up. Any ideas on what I did wrong? I’d really like to get it working.

I just got a new Treo650 (I had a 600 before). As I run the installation everthing gets copied over to the new 650 and works, except for the 650 bluetooth application which says something like(unable to work, components missing, reinstall). So I did, ending up with the same message.
Any suggestion?

Bob are you able to pair the two at all? Meaning do you get to the point where you’re prompted to enter a passkey? And are you initiating the pairing from the LS or the Treo?

In regards to Bob Mandell’s question about the BT/LS430 linkage… I read an article a couple of weeks back on this subject. I’m sorry, but I don’t recall where it was. Anyhow, it said the BT on the 650 is flakey with respect to car hands free systems. Doesn’t seem to work with Lexus, BMW, and a few others. There may be updates, but I don’t know. I was looking for a Ford compatible set, so I didn’t give it too much notice. Good luck.

hi, i’ve installed the wifi driver on my Treo 650 which is a unlocked GSM model from Singapore and discover that when the driver is loaded, the phone keep rebooting and once reinstalled it working.
But I noticed the camera and bluetooth don’t seems to work at all.
Is there a new patch for this wifi card on my treo? Your kind advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I test the wifi driver on T650 (unlocked) with out success. But i saw that the wifi connection was actually established. I saw that may access point assign a IP address to T650 and T650 answer ping send from another PC in the network.
I realized that when i used the wifi app the connetion was not stablished but i select “Network” option in preferences then wifi and finally “Connect” button.
I experimented periodical resets too and bluetooth stops to work. Camera works fine.

I too was fooled into buying a goddamn tre600 because of the Palm website link to a Wifi card accessories from within the tre600 page. now that i got my backordered(4 weeks) wifi card from palm, they decide to change their links and show nomore the wifi card as an accessory from the tre600 age!! I got the never-ending hellified reboot loop

I installed the wifi hack on my 650, All it does is reboot the phone every time the lights go off and knocks out the blue tooth files. I found this to be very disappointing; I spent 105 bucks on the palm one card.

I own a 650 treo. I paid full retail price for this phone and i expected it to be quite customer friendly.. i’ve recently purchased a 512 mb sd card and my fricken comp will not recognize it. Maybe this is due to my incompetence, but i cannot seem work this blasted device. can someone help me.. thank you.

Don’t download this patch used to work by the early messages above but it looks like the palm OS upgrade causes a continous reset loop (I have experienced the pain of re-loading all my apps)…may be Shadowmite can get out of bed a fix up this mess…but it’s not looking good…:-(

I tried your PRC file on my 650 and it did what you said until the the final soft reset after it asked for my wifi card. Now it just loops between the PalmOne and Palm Powered screen. It will not soft reset or hard reset.
I used a PlamOne wifi card.

It doesn’t work with treo 650 of Orange ! It makes the treo soft reset continuously ad vitam eternam. Need to do a hard reset !!! thanks my backup card… Well, do you have any idea of what happen ?

How bout everyone check their version of software, read this website to it’s full extent and before just clicking on a link thats almost a year old and installing a hack onto your phone, do some research. That or reverse the order of this thread to show the latest post at the top.. It’s hard for me to imagine people will just install whatever on their $600 phone!

The problem with this thread is it starts with the oldest message. So many were trapped. Very unfortunate if Shadowmite will not update his hack. Too many will be fooled.

To those that have installed this driver and the phone keeps on reseting. Take the battery out and while holding the power buttion reinsert battery. Answer yes to clearing memory. This will install a fresh copy of the OS. All files will be erased. hope this helps

Check out the Treo 700. You can get a wifi card for it and do everything that we are all trying to do, get on the net. Maybe Palm will have updated drivers for the 650 once the 700 comes out this month.

if your treo 650 continuously resets, all is not lost. hard reset by holding up+power and then hit the reset button. hold up + power until you see the gray palm logo. release up, then power and a Yes/No screen will appear for a hard reset. Once reset it should function as normal again.

So….Treo 700W come out& immdiatley a wifi card is supported for it? Come one -wen can I get my 650 to accept an SD WiFi card!? I’m loathe to get a bulky enfora sled. Yick.

I am trying to decide which is the best, the TREO 650 or the TREO 700. Anyoone out that with pros and cons of both. Sales people sell – I need info from individuals who have used these phones and can tell me pit falls before I find them myself.

I have the 650 and would like to know which wireless sd card I should get to try out the driver here. Any tried and true suggestions?

The treo 700 uses windows OS instead of palm’s . It has slightly more memory because windows needs more than palm OS. It works with wifi cards out of the box.

The PALM Wifi card works with Shadowmites patch. I will be geting a Treo 650 tomorrow and will go to the nearest Compusa and pick up the wifi card to try it out. Sure hope it works. I’ve been reading a lot about the Wifi possibility and I have my doubts since it hasnt worked for a lot of people. I guess its worth a try.

I just purchased a new Treo 650 (and Palm Wi-Fi card) in Australia and decided to install the hacked Wi-Fi drivers. During the install, I got a message stating that a newer version of the Wi-Fi drivers already existed so the installation would not proceed. I plugged the Wi-Fi card in but no Wi-Fi option appeared in the Prefs area.

Hello, I have the treo 650 I love it however I don’t want to keep sprint. They are the worst carriers I’ve ever had. I want to know if I can unlock my treo and take it to another carrier or am I stuck with sprint. Any information would help.

Unfortunately you are stuck on Sprint. Only GSM phones could be used on other networks… Sprint and Verizon use CDMA.

Sprints can be unlocked to use on verizons network.

The sprint treo guy that wants to consider another service can also use Alltel but you will have to unlock the phone yourself. They are cdma

I have a few questions about Wi-fi for the treo 650 GSM Cingular

1st. aside from the Enfora Treo 650 Wi-Fi Sled witch i hate due to its size and cosmetics. is there another wi-fi solution that works. I have seen a post saying to use the C-Guys SD-Link11b WIFI Certified IEEE802.11b SDIO Wireless LAN Card but i don’t know if it will work because I have also read another post saying that the drivers are not out yet. so im lost on this one.

2nd question is about unlocking. I am in Europe at the time of writing this but I’m going back to the US soon to pick up two Cingular Treo 650s and i don’t have an account with Cingular so I plan to have them unlocked. do you know a good fast service to consider? 3ed question has to do with the fact that one of the Treos I’m picking up has a password on it and I want to know how to remove it. Can’t I reset the system or something to do this?

After reading all this I’m quite scared about the 650. Thank god I’m not paying much for them. The questions are can they really be all that bad? is their a work around to most the problems? & without the update patch how does the shadowmite’s Wi-fi work?.. also pleas note that i never intend to use the internet with any celular provider simply because I don’t ever plan to have another contract if i can help it.

The lack of wifi on the 650 today (August 2006) is a DEAL BREAKER. 5 months ago I bought the 650 as I love palm OS and apps and have been using them for many years happily. I tried some high end Windows Mobile devices and hated the lack of depth of apps. I realise now I should have kept my cheap bluetooth T61 Erricsson and got the TX. Then I would have Wifi that works and well integrated SMS via bluetooth.

I live in Asia and we do NOT have internet services via phone at anything approaching the US costs so it is prohibitively expensive IF your service provider has it. OTOH Wifi is easy to get in public areas and my home network uses it too.

SHAME on you PALM. I am trully narked at you for not implementing Wifi when every competitor of yours does. My next phone is NOT going to be a Palm. Considerign the Treo 650 is not cheap the omission of Wifi is inexcusable.

Check out USB Modem. But beware DUN, could be against your TOS and also cost you money if you don’t have a proper dataplan.

Did anyone get this to work? I got it to a point on my Treo 650 where it connected to my WLAN but the the signal was zero. The card also makes my palm reset often. Maybe I did something wrong on the install? Any advice, thanks.

Hello to all,

I have tried the shadowmite (final version) wifi hack on both a GSM and CDMA Treo 650. I installed both on each of the 650s (after backup). I got the endless loop on both. I did a warm reset which stopped the loop and I could then insert the card and run the WiFi setup utility. The Treo did not find the router. I directed it to the router which it found and apparently got a connection. However the indication was that the router was “out of range”. I hard reset both phones and reinstalled. No loop, but same result. Both Treos have the latest upgrade which may have something to do with the problem. Incidentlally, I used the Palm WiFi card for all tests.

I conclude that the hack does not work. Shadomite’s last comment on the hack was that the problem is the net library, which cannot be hacked due to lack of source code.

I guess we will simply have to wait for Palm to write Drivers.

This is very impressive and i am really greatful for your time and effort. I was disappionted to find out my 650 wouldn’t have WiFi and now I can have it! But i’m concerned about the same issues as Anson (posted above me). These drivers don’t seem to work properly and even if they by chance do for someone there are functions on your Treo 650 that will be affected so if you decide to try this make sure you back up your files.

what was the Rom that was used for the hack? I realize it was a custom rom but bassed on what rom? thats all i need to know. it will save me the time of testing each and every one.

I recently got a PalmOne Treo. It has had this persistent problem that is really annoying and kills the battery.

The phone will do a fresh reboot every five minutes. If you are on the phone or in an applociation, forget it. The reboot trumps everything else.

A confounding issue is that it goes from doing this to not doing this without any apparent notice. Then, it will do it from 2-7 days and then quit doing it again for a few weeks. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN “PHONE OFF”

There is GOT to be a palm OS UNIVERSAL wifi driver somewhere for the sd wifi card not manufactured by palm..
