Conservatives cheer gay marriage bans; plan for ammendment

Regarding the gay marriage issue. People are confused about the whole marriage issue. Marriage was designed for a man and a woman with the premise that this would create a stable and secure family environment , i.e. for any future children. I think gays want equality and I can understand that desire, but life is not equal. Just like when you bring your children to the toy store — they generally do not all want or get the same thing, and there is nothing wrong with that. But sometimes with different desires comes a need for a different set of guidelines. For example, if one child creates a desire to do sports, you’ll have a different relationship and have some different rules for that child than you would with a child that just wants to read. Therefore, since we have such diversity in our culture, we need to acknowlege that and design a new kind of union. Not so as to single them out but to make them feel welcome.

Sometimes I don’t understand our government. We have time to address this issue right away but other more pressing issues can wait. I think our government is getting out of control on controlling our lives. I fear that there will be amendments for everything that we do and rules and guidelines to being an American even. How far will the government go to have complete control over everyone and everything in an attempt at world domination? These are just small steps but they one day could amount to bigger ones if not too careful. I should drink less coffee this early in the morning!

What’s not to understand? 60+% of the voting public like the idea that a marriage is between a man and a woman, as traditionally thought, taught and exercised. Simply because two persons choose to do an act that most people find ridiculously unproductive does not mean that they should get the same rights as others, who are saying “why would someone be gay?” To date, the gay movement has not let us know why they are gay. “They want to be.” So, why is it hard for you to understand “I don’t want to grant special privileges to the actions of others”? What is next? Bestiality, pedophilia, voyuerism? All these have to be accepted by me simply because “we don’t live in the dark ages anymore”? Weak argument. Really weak. Look into why it has historically been deemed deviant behavior and you shall find your answers. Unproductive for procreation. God said it was blashpemy. Revolting to most other people’s sensibilities (innate or trained). And besides, what are underwriters going to do: Two married females exact an unequal benefit from life insurance while two married males get screwed… The whole system would have to re-vamped just to accomidate them. Without religion or moral what are you but a text book,a college degree or
two,will that bring you comfort in a time of need?If we choose to be text books lets open up to the chapter on the Red Cross,the Red Cross publicly states they do not want homosexual blood donors.Does that make the Red Cross homophobic? And as far as the government ,they didn’t decide this alone, i helped along with reelecting the Prez(OHIO KICKS ASS!).And as far as forefathers goes,some of them owned slaves and fathered children with
them because they lacked the same values in which you criticize,religion and
morals.A last little tidbit,do you realize that if Kerry would’ve won the Presidency that if he flew from North Carolina to California that every state
underneath him would’ve been a state that did not vote for him!

You who advocate gay marriage have no Biblical background, or sense of morals at all,that I can fathom. Marriage is a holy, sanctioned union between one man and on woman, blessed by God. No mention of same sex has ever been made until recently. By the way, I am not homophobic.
Phobia implies a fear, and I feel only pity and disgust for homosexuals of
either sex. Read your Bible, get right with the Lord, and let this issue die
it’s (un)natural death. Everyone I know is tired of hearing a small miniority
of gay people make such a clamor over something 99â…ž of the people in the world care nothing about.

I agree with the author, what would be so wrong with letting gay people get married? They have a right to have their love accepted and recognised by society. What right has president Bush or anyone else to say no. Gay people want the same rights to be able to get married under the same way “straight” people do. A seperate ‘united spousal cohabitation’ agreement doesn’t quite cut it because it’s not the same, it’s a different marriage altogether.

In response to Concerned Conservative I would like to point out to them that it isn’t 1% of the population that are gay, statistically it’s around 10%, about the same number of people with red hair society. It would be selfish to deny red heads the same rights as everyone else in society, so why is it okay to discriminate against gay and lesbian people?

Maouse said that, to date, the gay community has not said why they are gay. Does Maouse think being gay is a lifestyle choice? If it was simply a choice then why would around 10% of people want to belong to a group that was seen as deviant and taboo? Perhaps they get kicks from being looked down upon? No, perhaps sexuality is decided at birth. Perhaps gay people actually are attracted to members of the same sex. What do you think?

I wonder why these homophobic people dislike gay people so much. So what if a girl likes another girl. They aren’t hurting anyone by having the same marriage as hetrosexuals. It doesn’t de-value marriage unless you get married to make yourself feel better than homosexuals. And if people are that fascist, then ask yourselves, would they accept everything that makes up who you are?
