A former Chesapeake mayoral candidate was fined $100 for stealing campaign signs of fellow candidates before the May 4 city election.

Carawan said he removed signs he thought violated city policy. But a prosecutor noted that this was the city’s job – not Carawan’s.

Chesapeake prohibits posting signs within 15 feet of a roadway or on road medians. Signs must be at least five feet back from a sidewalk’s inner edge.
